Medical humanities is an interdisciplinary field that studies the human experience of health and illness through the lens of the humanities, social sciences, and the arts. It helps us understand the human side of medicine.
Medical humanities includes Medical Ethics, History of Medicine and study of Literature in Medicine, to understand the human experience of health and illness.
Medical humanities can help doctors to become more compassionate, effective communicators, and better decision-makers.
By understanding the human side of medicine, doctors can provide care that is truly patient-centered understanding their thoughts, feelings and experiences thus improving their care.
The arts, humanities and social sciences act as a counterbalance to the relentless reductionism of the biomedical sciences.
