What is the Legacy Corpus?
The Legacy Corpus is a restricted, perpetual endowment built through Legacy ($100,000) and Mini Legacy ($20,000) Scholarships. It is designed to provide named, need- and merit-based scholarships to MBBS students at our alma mater—year after year, forever.
A fully funded Legacy Scholarship supports 5 students in perpetuity.
A fully funded Mini Legacy Scholarship supports 1 student at all times.
Each scholarship honors the donor or a loved one by creating a lasting legacy of education and opportunity.
Purpose: To ensure long-term, stable support for bright, financially challenged medical students—empowering future healthcare leaders for generations to come.
What is the Community Corpus?
It plays a complementary role to the Legacy Corpus by not only addressing immediate student needs but also fostering long-term endowment growth through sustained donor engagement.
Designed for responsiveness and resilience, the Community Corpus enables:
Scalable support for a larger number of students during years of high applicant demand.
Financial flexibility, with access to cash equivalents that provide a hedge against market volatility, ensuring stability when investment returns fluctuate.
This fund serves as the adaptive engine of the foundation—meeting real-time needs today while strengthening the path to perpetual support tomorrow.
What is the Relationship Between the Legacy Corpus & Community Corpus?
Strategic Balance:
We anticipate that donor contributions will form an 80–85% allocation to the Legacy Corpus, which drives long-term, perpetual scholarship support.
The remaining 15–20% supports the Community Corpus, providing real-time responsiveness to student needs and offering liquidity during market downturns.
Financial Resilience:
During periods of market volatility, the Community Corpus acts as a safety net, allowing the foundation to avoid selling equities and ensuring continuity in scholarship disbursement.
Scalable Impact:
The Community Corpus enables us to support additional students in years with high demand or unexpected need—amplifying the reach of the Legacy Corpus without compromising its long-term stability.
Sustainability Forecast:
A Monte Carlo analysis of this blended strategy shows a 70% probability of sustaining the corpus in perpetuity, securing both impact and resilience across generations.
How are the funds invested?
70% in the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) – capturing broad market returns through passive index investing.
30% in Schwab U.S. Treasury Money Fund (SNSXX) – providing liquidity and stability through short-term, low-risk treasury investments.
This 70/30 allocation balances growth with liquidity, ensuring the foundation can meet both long-term goals and near-term obligations.
The strategy is guided by Financial Advisor Dr. David Graham, MD, who brings deep experience in both financial planning and healthcare philanthropy.
How many students are supported each year?
By 2028, after five years of consistent support, the Foundation will sustain scholarships for 150 students at any given time—marking a major milestone in creating a self-sustaining, perpetual scholarship pipeline for bright and deserving students.
Who oversees the endowment funds?
The Board Chair
The Treasurer
Three non-board members with relevant financial expertise
The committee meets bi-annually and oversees the endowment. All recommended changes are subject to approval by the Board of Directors.
This structure ensures expert stewardship, transparency, and alignment with the long-term mission of the foundation.
What is the Individual Scholarship Account?
It is comprised of donations from individuals who commit $5,000 in total support to fund one MBBS student for the duration of their course.
Unlike the Legacy or Mini Legacy Scholarships, this is not a perpetual fund—it provides immediate, full-course support for one student without ongoing commitment.
Who are the Individual Scholarship Donors – 2024?
